About Sober Anywhere

A proposed publication helping people and families translate treatment recommendations into practical arrangements and everyday support.

Sober Anywhere is a publication about the practical work that accompanies a transition from treatment to everyday life. It is written for the person receiving care and for the family members or supporters they choose to involve.

What we help organize

Our materials help readers prepare questions, make a contact list, confirm arrangements and agree on responsibilities. A recommendation to attend follow-up care still leaves several tasks: finding the receiving contact, confirming the appointment, arranging travel and deciding how to handle a scheduling problem. Those tasks deserve a place in the written plan.

We use original planning tools alongside links to primary public sources. SAMHSA’s recovery overview informs our attention to self-direction and chosen support. Its treatment-quality checklist informs questions about credentials, methods, family participation and help with other life needs. Explore SAMHSA’s quality checklist.

Keep clinical care with the treating professionals

A checklist can organize a question about a prescription or a change in symptoms. It cannot answer that clinical question. The plan should identify the licensed professional or treating service responsible for the answer and how to reach them. Our guides do not diagnose, prescribe, provide therapy or decide the right level of care.

Permission matters in family coordination. HHS provides guidance about information sharing with family, friends and legal personal representatives, including additional protections for certain substance-use treatment records. Use the provider’s process to clarify the actual arrangement. Read the HHS resource.
